Yellowstone’s Cole Hauser insists the show must return to finish Season 5—reveals shocking reasons behind his demand!
Season 5 of Yellowstone may mean the end for butt-kicking cowboy John Dutton, portrayed by Kevin Costner, but that doesn’t make it a wrap for the show itself.
Yellowstone star Cole Hauser, who plays John’s beloved son-in-law and mentee Rip Wheeler on the western drama, spoke to People about how the show should continue despite Kevin’s departure.
Cole jokingly referred to himself as “just a hired gun,” but he told the news outlet that it “sure would be a shame to stop a great thing” before bringing Yellowstone to a complete end.
“I believe the numbers speak for themselves and America has spoken,” Cole said.
He added: “Taylor [Sheridan’s] and my interest was to bring back an American man who is unapologetic, honest, loyal with strong values. I believe we have accomplished that together.”
Throughout this season, fans will see Rip’s role as John’s number-one ranch hand be more focused, given that he put his life at risk to save John’s property.
Not only does he have obligations to his father-figure John, but also to his wife Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) – John’s firecracker daughter – and his and Beth’s pseudo-adopted son Carter (Finn Little).
Kevin has chosen not to come back for Yellowstone’s last six episodes, which are now airing almost two years after the mid-season finale.
Cole couldn’t contain his excitement for fans to see the final few eps of Yellowstone at the red carpet premiere on November 7.
“I hope that they love it,” he told People at the event. “And, you know, maybe there’ll be more. Maybe they’re wrong. But if this is it, then it’s been one hell of a ride.”
He continued, “as long as [creator] Taylor Sheridan is writing,” he’d be interested in returning. Additionally, he revealed in April to the news outlet before he started filming the rest of Season 5 that he was “excited” to work again.
“It’s been a year and a half. I’m excited to see my castmates. I’m excited to see Kelly Riley and work with her, see Taylor again…” Cole said at the time. “It’s pretty wild that this show has touched so many…”
